Photograph of the interior of The Coppice
Black and white photograph of the interior of The Coppice in Letchworth, designed by Parker and Unwin and built 1905-06.
circa 1906
This shows a view of the interior of one room, through into the another, looking towards a large fireplace.
The house was designed for Arthur Bates, who wanted the kitchen away from the living quarters so he wouldn't have to be disturbed by the sounds and smells of the kitchen. It was also so that servants could live a more independent life. See PLAN3242 for further details on the plan.
