Title

Cheap Cottages Exhibition Road

Brief description

B/W photographic postcard with title 'Letchworth, Garden City, Herts,' shows Nevells Road (originally called Exhibition Road) looking towards Cross Street with 1905 Cheap Cottage Exhibition cottages including the "concrete cottage." The photograph was presumably taken at the time of the exhibition and competition as there is some building debris around and some houses have signs which were used in the competition to display builders and/or architects details (not legible in this case). The cottages shown are: (from right to left) entry number 35, 19 Cross Street, by Messrs Potter and Company; entry number 36, 216 Nevells Road, by Messrs W Gradwell and Company, architect M W Moss Settle ARIBA; entry number 37, 214 Nevells Road, by architects Messrs Frederick Harrison FSI and W H Hattrell MSA; entry number 38, 212 Nevells Road, by the Cement Products Company. Printed by E. Mott, Markyate, Herts. Not postally used or inscribed on reverse.
