Curator's comments
Winifred Helena Bamford was born in 1878 and came to Letchworth from London c. 1918, living in Hillshott Road. She worked as a midwife, reportedly delivering many of Letchworth Garden Cities babies! Bamford was also at hand to provide medical support to surrounding community, dressing wounds etc. Working with Martha Mary Webb she was a member of the Old People’s Welfare Committee, and organised a chiropody service for older residents.
